Last Wednesday night I got a call from one of my good freinds and she rang to let me kow that she started Jillian Michael's 30 Day shred DVD with her family. This got me quite excited because I have always made starts to programs and so-called deits without the support with anyone else. I went through everything by myself and I truly believe that is one of the reasons why I failed with everything i've tried. So I thought it was a great opportunity to do the 30 Day Shred with my friend and then we could call each other and be accountable for what we have done that day and our progress.
For many of you who have not realised you can get the 30 Day Shred through YouTube - you just need to type it in the search bar and you are bound to come across the video - therefore it's FREE!
So basically the 30 Day shred includes 3 levels each of which contain 3 circuits.
Each circuit is made up of:
3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs
For the first 3 days of 30 Day shred I found it quite good and challenging however I dropped the baton on day four as I was out with family up the coast for basically majority of the day and went end up having fish and chips and then when we got home, I had my cousins come over and when you entertain there are pastries , iced breads, etc... all the bad but yummy stuff which completely stuffed me up (LOL I have zero willpower when it is in front me!)
However a call that night from my friend put me back on track, the day after I decided to incorporate the BodyTrim system with the 30 Day shred to get the maximum results and cover all of my bases - both exercise and nutrition.
The BodyTrim system is quite pricey but I found it on sale at a bookstore which was closing down months ago for like $20. Yes I did try BodyTrim before and complained it had very little variety but this time I am even more motivated to get the results because it will be Summer soon here in Australia and next year I'll be heading off to Europe during their Summer so it'll be bikini-mania so I need to be prepared!
Geoff Jowett, the creator of the BodyTrim system reveals that:
The weight loss equation in his eyes is:
70% food, 20% walking and 10% strenuous exercise
His philosophy on the way we should be eating is based on the notion that we are hunter-gatherers. The diet that our ancestor hunter-gatherers consisted of lean animal proteins, vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts. Now, Geoff combines learning from back then and now to create a hybrid system.
Basically he is an advocate for high protein and low carbohydrates, as well as eating smaller portions eaten frequently throughout the day. There are 3 phases to this system:
- Phase 1 - 3 Day Carb Detox
- Phase 2 - Weight Loss
- Phase 3- Weight Maintenance
During Phase 1, which is where i'm at now is tough but doable - its basically a serving of just protein at every meal/snack - consume NO carbs (veggies are a type of carbohydrate so do not eat for 3 days)
This is what Phase 2 looks like:
Breakfast - a protein source along with a portion of starchy carbohydrates (optional), or vegetables (optional), or a piece of fruit (optional)
Mid morning snack - 50-100g of protein
Lunch - protein and vegetables
Post-lunch snack - 50-100g of protein
Dinner - protein and vegetables
Phase 3, gives you the option to reintroduce starchy carbohydrates into lunch...
Also, drink LOTS of water through the day and get in about 15mins of walking everyday (I actually walk my dog for about 30mins in the day before I do the 30 Day Shred workout).
I will let you all know consistently how I go with this journey and will post some breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options that I come up with while progressing through with the program.
